When Can I Come to the Library? What Are the Library's Hours?

The library is open whenever the school is open! Though Ms. Reyes may not be in Mrs. Ray, teachers and parent volunteers can help you check out books. We also have a new self-checkout system this year.

Ms. Reyes will be in the library to help you find books and resources during the following times:

Monday - 12:30-3:30pm
Wednesday - 12:30-3:30pm
Thursday - 9:30-11:00am & 11:30-3:30pm
Friday - 12:30-4:00pm

What Can I Do in the Library?

The library is so much more than just books, though we have a lot of those too! You are always welcome to browse the books, but we can also help students with information literacy (an important 21st Century Skill), internet and database search strategies, research help and reader's advisory.

For teachers we are happy to recommend books for yourself or your class, provide information and tools for technology in the classroom, help order book baskets for your classroom through ETLS and further your professional development through our on-site teacher's resource collection and access to the DPS Professional Library.

How Does the Library Support Teacher Excellence and Student Achievement?

We strive to help students become successful life-long learners by:
  • Encouraging exploration of the world through a love of reading
  • Fostering curiosity and inquiry about the world all around us
  • Collaborating with teachers to meet the curricular needs of the various subject areas
  • Providing materials that nurture students' independent pursuit of learning and reading interests
  • Supporting 21st Century skills and college readiness through online resources and information literacy
For more information on how school libraries improve student achievement and learning outcomes check out the School Libraries Work report from Scholastic which compiles the results of multiple research papers into one easy-to-read resource.

Who Is Our Librarian?

Ms. Reyes is our new school library paraprofessional. She is a graduate student in the library and information science program at the University of Denver where she is also an Early Childhood Librarianship Fellow. In El Paso Ms. Reyes was a substitute teacher for EPISD and she has also been a museum educator for the Children's Museum of Denver and Golden History Museums. She previously worked for the Northeastern Colorado Bookmobile Services, Harriet K. Hutchens Memorial Library at SBU and most recently for the central children's collection of Denver Public Library.

She is passionate about reading, literacy and helping students to become life-long learners. Ms. Reyes is also very interested in how technology is shaping the way we teach and learn in the 21st century and is eager to help teachers and students improve their transliteracy skills.

In her free time Ms. Reyes loves to read, watch movies, knit and cook. She is also an avid hockey fan (Go AVS!!). You can check her Children's Lit Blog Here!
